In the 1984 breakup, AT&T split into eight pieces as “Ma Bell” gave start to seven “Baby Bells.” The Baby Bells have been seven companies made up of AT&T’s 22 operating corporations: Nynex, Bell Atlantic, Ameritech, BellSouth, US West, Pacific Telesis and Southwestern Bell. Within the deal, AT&T kept its title, its long distance business, its manufacturing arm and Bell Labs. The Baby Bells appeared stuck with the least worthwhile parts of the Bell System: native service and the century-outdated copper wire network to hold it.

The silicon wafer is coated with a cloth known as a photoresist that undergoes a chemical process when uncovered to ultraviolet gentle.
